The Three Crusader Castles Walk
An enjoyable fully supported guided walking holiday along the crest of the beautiful Beşparmak Mountain range of Northern Cyprus.
The Kyrenia Mountain Trail is an area of outstanding natural beauty. In Spring the scented pine forests are carpeted with wild flowers and orchids, many species being unique to North Cyprus. Spotted along the trails in Spring and Autumn are a profusion of migratory birds so keep your eyes wide open at all times or may just miss a Buzzard or even an Eagle.
The mountains are crowned with crusader castles, byzantine churches and bronze age ruins. Nestled along the trail are rustic inns and restaurants, where you can enjoy wonderful Cypriot cuisine and hospitality under the shade of grape vines and ancient olive trees.
Northern Cyprus is still relatively undiscovered, hikers often walk all day without seeing another soul. The views from the mountains are spectacular and varied, with the verdent green pine forests of the Northern face, contrasting with the arid Southern face, both sides harbouring a wide variety of wildlife. Lizards, geckos, hares and foxes are all commonly seen along the trail; and of course around each corner the sapphire blue Mediterranean glitzens eternally on the horizon.
This is an eight day walking holiday, encompassing the best portions of the Kyrenia Mountain Trail. It is a fully supported walk, with an experienced knowledgeable guide. Everyday a support vehicle is posted to be within the vicinity of the walk, bringing fresh supplies of cold water, and giving weary walkers the option to rest a while in the vehicle and re-join the group later.
This holiday is not comprised of a set of random circular walks, our walkers make a steady progression westerly across the mountain range. At the end of our holidays all our walkers have a feeling of immense satisfaction when they look on the map and see what distance they have covered.
